Description
Inspiration

The Mardencombe Table Lamp started from a length of printed cotton with a small repeating motif — the kind of yardage kept for a dress and never cut. Laid flat the print reads as even rows. but folded it breaks into narrow columns and the motif only resolves again once the folds open out under light. That was the reason to pleat the cloth rather than stretch it smooth. The shade was then drawn wide and shallow. so there is enough surface for the pattern to actually be seen from a chair beside it. The turned column underneath was left plain on purpose. so nothing competes with the cloth.

Key Features
Pleated Printed Shade
Cloth is knife-pleated over the frame with a small repeating motif printed on it. which opens up as the pleats flare.
Turned Ash Column. Flared Foot
A single turned ash post in walnut stain flares into a trumpet foot. with a bronze collar at the joint.
40cm Shade. 61cm Lamp
The shade is two-thirds the height of the whole lamp in width. so it screens the bulb from a seated eyeline and drops light onto the surface.
